Gerry was an inspiration and mentor to so many younger runners. I have great memories of magical weekend trips to the Ben with him, even routine club runs were special in his company. A very special man.

some more kind messages recieved

the passing of a legend! Lot's of memories come flooding back to those dark nights from Nab Wood when Gerry would pass on his advice and opinions to all the younger chaps. Funnily I was only thinking of him the other day when having one of those nostalgic moments.

Oh dear, how sad. I used to stop and talk to Gerry all the time when he was out walking his dogs. He always had time for people. A true legend.

My wife would bump into Gerry alot around Bingley went she was on her Lunch time walk. He always had his two tiny dogs and his "Ruck Sack" One day Jenny asked him "Why do you have the ruck sack" Gery said "Well they are only tiny" - meaning the dogs, "So when they get tired, I just pop them in the sack!"

I am very saddened to hear of Gerry passing away. I have fond memories of him on training nights and race days. Thursday training could be steady if Gerry had a race on the Saturday. However the chat would be endless. I can't remember how many times I've heard the story of the German airship dropping a reeth at morton cemetary but it was always good to here another variation.

He was also a master of the back handed compliment, he would tell me that he could not believe how well I ran with big fat legs like I had. He was difficult to beat in race as he was so good, for me it would be just a dream to be in front of Gerry at the finish line but I managed it twice, the 3 Peaks and the London Marathon. In the London he was also beaten by a Wasp!

Who wears a Bingley vest and a fat cigar to the prestigious Christmas Dinner?..........................Gerry!

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend his funeral, as I am away at work till Friday, but you all will be in my thoughts Tuesday.

Gerry, a great inspiration, running friend and a wealth of gathered gems.

God bless

I have attached a few photo's of Gerry. I thought you may like to see them - also could you perhaps forward them to Ady for possible use on the website.
I think to say that Gerry was always cheerful and a friend to all who met him sums him up.

Agree, Geronimo, very apt tribute! Thanks to you for all your work in collating a lot of the photos, forum comments etc and to all those who contributed to the Harrier articles.
I'm sure that Gerry would have approved too!
