I am very saddened to hear of Gerry passing away. I have fond memories of him on training nights and race days. Thursday training could be steady if Gerry had a race on the Saturday. However the chat would be endless. I can't remember how many times I've heard the story of the German airship dropping a reeth at morton cemetary but it was always good to here another variation.
He was also a master of the back handed compliment, he would tell me that he could not believe how well I ran with big fat legs like I had. He was difficult to beat in race as he was so good, for me it would be just a dream to be in front of Gerry at the finish line but I managed it twice, the 3 Peaks and the London Marathon. In the London he was also beaten by a Wasp!
Who wears a Bingley vest and a fat cigar to the prestigious Christmas Dinner?..........................Gerry!
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend his funeral, as I am away at work till Friday, but you all will be in my thoughts Tuesday.
Gerry, a great inspiration, running friend and a wealth of gathered gems.
God bless
